Watson Pharmaceuticals,  one of the world's leading and most respected integrated global pharmaceuticals companies, is seeking an Associate Director, Medical Communications for the Parsippany, NJ office.

Summary: Under general direction, responsible for the product support of a Company therapeutic division (Urology or Nephrology), the Medical Communications staff within the specific division, and the high profile launch initiatives. Serves as the critical lead as to how the department responds to the needs of the therapeutic area via medical support in all areas of the Company including publication planning, dossier creation, assistance of business development in the efficient transfer of products, and medical review of promotional and educational pieces. Responsible for executing plans to create and provide supportive medical materials both within the department and to all customers within the Company, including international affiliates.Essential Job Functions: This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

·         Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.

·         Performs as the key medical contact of the specific division for the detailed knowledge of a product, disease state, competitor products, clinical trials, and published literature in order to supply quality medical review and comments during the training and preparation of medical information.

·         Interacts strategically with various Company personnel, including, clinical trial managers, international affiliates, medical directors, administrators, Medical Communication Managers and Specialists, and Regulatory and Marketing staff in order to meet the company’s objectives.

·         Works externally with key opinion leaders, advisory board members, freelance/contract medical writers and agencies, investigators, journals, and colleagues in relevant professional associations.

·         Interprets and applies instructions, policies and procedures, and guidelines pertaining to their specific division within medical communications.

·         Explores upcoming issues for the department as well as provides guidance for the core responsibilities.

·         Establishes individual and department priorities and deadlines and ensures that duties and/or assignments are completed accordingly.

·         Supervises subordinates, including hiring employees, preparing work schedules and assigning/reviewing work, training, preparing performance appraisals and counseling/disciplining.

·         Ensures compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.

·         Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of:

·            Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.

·            Pharmaceutical principles, practices and their application.

·            Techniques of recruitment, interviewing and selecting applicants for employment.

·            Medical terminology and treatment modalities.

·            Pharmacology principles, theory and their application.

·            Project management principles and techniques.

·            Public speaking and presentation techniques.

·            Principles and practices of supervision and training.

·            Current Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.

·            English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

·            Computer systems and software applications.

Skill in:

·         Implementing goals, objectives and practices for effective, efficient and cost effective management of allocated resources.

·         Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations that support department goals and objectives.

·         Researching, analyzing and evaluating medical information materials, new target areas, new responses received due to product labeling, regulatory affairs and marketing, and frequency and type of medical information requests received.

·         Interpreting and applying medical information, instructions, policies and procedures and guidelines pertaining to medical communications and release of medical communications.

·         Preparing clear and concise administrative and financial forecasting reports.

·         Ensuring compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.

·         Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

·         Supervising subordinates, work teams and projects.

·         Leading and training Medical Communications Specialists.

·         Managing and organizing multiple projects and assignments.

·         Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals contacted in the course of work.
