Purpose & Scope of PositionThe New Product Strategy Director (NPSD) is a highly strategic position responsible for ensuring the mid / long-term growth and successful commercial development of the assigned products in Astellas' pipeline portfolio. The position provides actionable commercial insights across phases of product development starting at P1/P2a up through launch. The NPSD is responsible for developing global strategy for assigned pipeline projects. This includes commercial brand development, product positioning, product life cycle strategies, and sales forecasting for assigned projects. The position coordinates early tasks of global pre-launch activities to prepare the products for market success.The position leads multidisciplinary teams charged with opportunity assessments and making strategic recommendations regarding new compounds from in-house development. This position will be responsible for developing / updating target product profiles, and ensuring that projects meet customer needs and are well positioned against the competition. The position collaborates closely with regional counterparts, clinical, regulatory, medical affairs, manufacturing technology, and project management on the development of key strategic recommendations.Essential Job Responsibilities* Establish and effectively implement Global Commercial Strategy, incorporating regional commercial needs, in order to maximize product market share potential and revenue growth in the targeted market.* Lead global commercial development and pre-launch market planning activities for pipeline products including disease state understanding, market research; thought leader and advocacy development; market, class, product and global brand development; market access planning; and public / external relations.* Translate market insights and competitive findings into business recommendations that deliver current and future success for the franchise and TA area (identify and prioritize unmet medical needs, target product profile validation, clinical trial design requirements, packaging, licensing targets, global campaign development, launch planning, forecasting and budgeting, etc).* Shaping, maintaining, and updating brand profile with respect to positioning, messaging, differential advantages and displacement rationales to maximize sales potential while ensuring strategic alignment.* Lead and develop commercial needs analysis and provide guidance on attractiveness of Life Cycle Management (LCM) strategies (new indications, formulations, technologies, P3b/4 studies, etc)* Establish launch planning -- order, timing, sequencing, and regulatory pathways while taking into consideration implications to various regions / countries in decisions* Partner with Commercial Analytics and Marketing Intelligence (PPS) on the development of global market forecasts and commercial assessments. Review all product forecasts for SDAP prior to GDC / GMC review.* Actively communicate and deliver insights to a variety of internal stakeholders outside of commercial, and constructively / appropriately challenges development, medical and regional teams* Manage interdisciplinary global team meetings for assigned products / projects to optimize strategies and portfolio value.* Participate in internal (STAR / Global Project Team) / external (Global Alliances / Partnerships) operating committee meetings Requirements * Business related degree from a leading university / post graduate qualification such as MBA and/or MSc or equivalent is highly desirable* Demonstrated experience leading cross functional teams, setting and managing department budgets and overseeing global vendor agreements.* Demonstrated ability to work well in global cross functional teams, with strong collaborative skills in developing relationships is required* Must have highly developed planning and prioritization skills to lead projects and proven ability to influence without authority* A successful track record for successfully developing commercial strategy for early stage products and research programs* Experience in leading New Product Planning, Business Development and/or Commercial teams with a minimum of 8 years in at least one of these areas.* Experience in managing pipeline project and product launches in the pharmaceutical industry.* Experience working with co-development and co-promotion partnerships, and serving in and / or leading alliance operating committees* Experience working in the context of a complex and highly matrix global organization, in a multi-cultural environment and leading through influence* Fluent in written and verbal business EnglishTravel RequirementsApproximately 30% - 40% of domestic and international travel will be required to attend important meetings. Travel may be outside of normal working hours and over weekends. |
