As a member of the Vertex Pharmaceuticals Medical Affairs group, the Senior Medical Communications Scientist will involve researching, creating, and editing documents associated with Medical Communications and Publications, including manuscripts, abstracts and conference presentations and educational materials. This position will work closely with the Director, Publications and Manager, Publications to implement the medical and scientific communications strategy for the HCV franchise and ensure effective communication to relevant audiences. This role will involve liaising with other departments and external stakeholders to ensure meeting internal and external deliverable timelines. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Works closely with the Publication Director and Manager on all aspects of Publication Planning implementation Prepare and manage high quality publications deliverables (e.g., scientific abstracts, posters, PowerPoint presentations and manuscripts) Provide editorial review of manuscripts, slide presentations, etc as appropriate. Ensure accurate, high-quality documents are prepared on schedule and in accordance with Vertex publication processes and industry guidance on publication practice Interact extensively with internal medical directors, statisticians, legal and regulatory colleagues as well as external authors. Remain current with medical developments and publications in the therapeutic area Requirements: An advanced degree is preferred (PhD, PharmD). 2+ years experience writing medical documents for peer-reviewed journal publication and scientific conference presentation, preferably in a collaborative, matrix-environment. A high proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint); skill in Microsoft Excel, EndNote reference software, and other scientific graphics software would be helpful The candidate must be able to work independently, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to learn new and diverse subject areas quickly. The candidate must function well within a team, forming productive working relationships within and external to Medical Affairs. The Candidate must possess the ability to summarize complex information and present in a clear, concise, and scientifically accurate manner to a range of audiences. Must be able to: o understand the structure of scientific presentations, ability to tailor format and content to specific needs of topic and/or audience o to demonstrate a knowledge of clinical research, drug development, regulatory requirements, and good clinical practices o have a very strong sense of responsibility and urgency; with the desire to take ownership of projects, be flexible, and manage simultaneous priorities under changing deadlines.
