Responsibility for managing the operations of Oncology Scientific Communication Team activities conducted within the Medical Information & Scientific Communications (MISC) department in Medical & Scientific Affairs (MSA) division of the Medical Organization. This person will serve as a key contact for their assigned teams' activities involving Oncology/R&D Strategic Publication Planning. Another key responsibility is to ensure compliance with all Regulatory and FDA-related regulations regarding communication and dissemination of publications. Scope of Duties and Responsibilities: Scientific Communication Planning and Strategy * Leads their assigned Oncology scientific communication teams and internal/external authors to develop and create global communication plans for MedImmune research, publication planning documents, and publication outlines for applicable MedImmune data * Leads the matrix management of other MEDI groups to develop a product specific Scientific Communication plan ensuring strategic planning and implementation, as well as, alignment with PDT objectives from which appropriate publication tactics are deployed. * Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop potential concepts utilizing therapeutic expert knowledge to enable scientific communication development, including abstracts, manuscripts, presentations or posters * Reviews relevant medical and scientific literature to identify research trends, scientific gaps, as well as emerging trends that may impact the quality/strategy of the scientific communication * Supports ad hoc activities (e.g., advisory boards, competitive intelligence, press releases) that contribute to the development of scientific communications. * Oversee/provide regular status reports to scientific communication teams and governance teams (PDT, TAT, PDC etc). * Provides therapeutic area scientific communication strategy and implementation plan. * Drives cross-functional, operational integration for the product development team (PDT) and therapeutic area team (TAT), including coordinating cross-functional activities and scientific communication with team members. * Oversees the creation and maintenance of the e-Publication database (DataVision) entries and references. Management Activities and Responsibilities: * Maintains familiarity with Good Publication Practices (e.g. ICMJE) * Manages direct reports (if any) including workload prioritization, goal setting and achievement, and career development. * Oversees/manages publication vendors, ensuring that timelines, expectations, and budgets established in the publication strategy and the vendor/author agreement are met. * Oversee presenter travel support for publication therapeutic area * Understands critical path activities, anticipates risks, and creates contingency plans in collaboration with project teams. * Leads matrix interactions with corporate governance bodies to ensure programs have adequate budget and resources to support approved scope. General Departmental: * Develop/update departmental procedure documents related to PDR and publication development and strategy * Provide weekly status updates to Assoc. Director/Director/Sr Director Scientific Communications, as needed * Identifies department and organizational needs including processes and procedure improvements, as well as corporate initiatives. * Oversees development and execution of process and procedure improvement initiatives within Scientific Communications and collaborates with other departments to gain buy-in and ensure new processes and procedures meet organizational goals. * Oversees the quality of scientific communications. * Serve as faculty for internal (MedImmune) Sales Training, as needed.
