Job Description:  Essential Duties and Job Functions :


Responsible for public relations programming within the Public Affairs group, specifically supporting the companys treatment access initiatives and healthcare policy communications
? Helps to develop relationships with a wide variety of advocates; communicates Gileads programs to support patient access and perspectives on health policy issues
? Coordinates meetings for Gileads Health Policy Advisory Board; works with Gilead management and Board Chair to determine meeting agenda and content
? Prepares press releases, presentations and other communications materials
? Effectively manages all aspects of public relations agency relationships, such as providing direction and project management
? Collaborates and regularly participates as a member of cross-functional teams, representing external communications function; provides public relations recommendations to help achieve company goals
? Serves as media spokesperson for treatment access and health policy news; responds to media requests and arranges interviews with management and opinion leader spokespeople as appropriate
? Examines complex issues from a broader organization perspective, determines communications opportunities and helps determine priorities within the Public Affairs group
? Some travel, both domestic and international, is required.

Requirements

? Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
? Ability to give formal presentations to internal and external audiences of various sizes
? Demonstrated experience in patient advocacy, media relations; knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends
? Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company
? Must have experience with public relations tactics and resources and the relationship of those tactics to other department roles and functions
? Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility is essential.

Specific Education and Experience
? Typically requires a BA degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and minimum 10 years of relevant experience, which includes 8-10 years of healthcare public relations experience
? Knowledge of Gileads areas of therapeutic focus is preferred
? Ability to interact with senior management and high-profile experts appropriately, and with confidence and ease.
