Job Description:  Scientist II, ProductionMadison, WI2nd shift (Sunday 8 pm
- 12 am) and (Mon-Thurs 3 pm
- 1 am ). The hours could change based on business requirements. Position Objective:Perform high throughput screening assays using a variety of platform technologies, focusing on biochemical assays, to characterize new chemical entities in our Screening and Profiling Team. This position will require following detailed protocols as well as the collection, and analysis of screening data. This position should also be able to identify and provide ideas to solve experimental non-conformities. Essential Functions:Use of basic laboratory skills in biochemistry or a related field to run high throughput screening (HTS) assays on automated workstations. Run screening projects in the laboratory, analyze data and generate reports. Identify and provide solutions to problems to direct day supervisor. Utilize templates and database/software programs to perform screens and analyze results. Conduct projects using automated equipment and detection readers that enable throughput needed to complete the work assigned for the night team. Respond to changing priorities and handle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines. Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, improve protocols, processes and equipment and present those ideas to the day supervisor and greater team. Advise day supervisor of factors that may affect quality and accuracy of data. Interface and collaborate with other areas (i. e. first shift team, Automation Application Team, Manufacturing Sciences) to complete projects and address concerns. Maintain professional expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature and competitor products. Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures. May require sitting at the bench or standing for long periods of time in the laboratory (> 4-6 hours) to conduct and complete projects. May require lifting upwards of 40 lbs. Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Nature and Scope:Position exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Perform duties with general direction by day supervisor and work closely with the team to complete projects and work assigned for the night team. Understand the importance of the project toward Company's objectives. Job encounters recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm, involving a moderate to high degree of complexity. Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position. Mistakes in work could cause substantial data errors.

Requirements

Education:Requires a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience. Masters degree in a specific scientific discipline is valuable.Experience:Requires a minimum of 2 years laboratory experience with a Bachelor's Degree. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Experience in running biochemical assays for kinase targets as well as a practical knowledge of fluorescence technologies (FP, FRET, and TR-FRET) is desirable. A working knowledge of laboratory automation including data handling systems (automated data management, statistical evaluation of data, and programming) is valuable. A self-motivated individual that can function both independently as well as part of a team is required. The individual should have a keen sense of urgency to get the job done, excellent lab hands, and be flexible to changes in work assignment. Working Conditions:Works in a laboratory environment involving automation, and computer analysis. This position does not offer relocation.EOE
