Job Description: 

We are looking for a technical writer with experience in both bioinformatics and in scientific / technical / medical writing, to join our Documentation Group, within the Marketing Department. The position reports to the Supervisor of Documentation. The Documentation Group is responsible for the creation and production of all customer documentation, to support the usage of the company#39;s next-generation DNA sequencing technology.

Responsibilities

* Write and edit various types of customer-oriented documents, including User#39;s Manuals and Guides, Online Help files, Tutorial / Training Materials, Application Notes, Best Practices, etc., with an emphasis on bioformatics software for data analysis, and research / medical applications

* Integrate various sources of information into a uniform style and language, for regulatory compliance and per marketing strategy

* Contribute to the production of electronic documentation, including an online software reference manual, software online help, e-learning tutorial modules, etc

* Prioritize and coordinate tasks

* Stay abreast of system developments and updates, as well as their underlying scientific and technological principles

* Collect data, procedures and relevance from other business units (e.g. Ramp;D)

* Other duties as may be assigned

Requirements

Knowledge and Abilities

* Solid general knowledge of bioinformatics including assembly and mapping algorithms, DNA database formats, querying and filtering, DNA sequence basecalling and quality scoring, etc.

* Familiarity with the Linux operating system environment, including Graphical User Interfaces, Command Line Interfaces, and with underlying hardware / networing considerations

* Experience creating online help for software applications

* Specific background in molecular biology and / or DNA sequencing is a plus

* Excellent, demonstrated ability to express complex concepts in verbal and other forms

* Self-motivated, quick learner, highly detail-oriented and organized with exceptional follow-through, and capable of working independently

* Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus required

* Flexible and adaptable to change, with the ability to perform in a fast-paced team environment

* Independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

Minimum Qualifications

* B.S. or M.S. in bioinformatics, molecular biology, or a related discipline

* Scientific / technical writing experience, supported by writing samples (besides research publications)

* 4-7 years of experience in software development, research and/or writing, preferably in a biotech setting
