Job Description: 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for directing the strategic marketing activities of Santen Inc. including market analysis and forecasting, development of product positioning statements and disease category marketing plans. Directs primary and secondary market research projects and provides competitive analysis. Provides guidance to management on the evolving healthcare environment, particularly with respect to trends in reimbursement and managed care and the implications for the US strategy. Participates in the global marketing committee to provide strategic perspective on the US market.

MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION:
- Works in close cooperation with other members of the senior management team in formulating strategy for the US market.
- Directs the development of strategic marketing plans, new product positioning statements, pricing strategies, and market research programs to support the commercialization of Santens products in the US market.
- Provides market intelligence and analysis in support of R&D clinical development plans as well as strategic product plans.
- Builds strong relationship with corporate and regional marketing to share competitor information and plan new product launches
- Works in close cooperation with Research, Development, and Medical Departments in the development of clinical trial designs that support corporate goals for reimbursement and competitive product positioning necessary to successfully commercialize products in the US market.
- Oversees market research, develops market and product forecasts, monitors competitive activity, identifies customer needs and develops professional education programs.
- Maintains up-to-date familiarity with health care reform legislation and industry trends.
- Designs and spearheads marketing, sales and target audience development programs in preparation for the launch by the Company of its products.
- Builds relationships with ophthalmologists and other appropriate target audiences throughout the United States and abroad.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of five or more years experience in strategic medical marketing, preferably ethical ophthalmic pharmaceuticals.
- MBA strongly preferred. BA/BS in Marketing, Economics, Business Management, Technical Life or Physical Sciences or equivalent required.
- Dynamic, creative, and enterprising with proven leadership skills. Demonstrated self-motivation and self-initiative attributes
- Prior experience working with Japanese companies is desired.
- Current knowledge of the evolving health care industry, particularly the specialty pharmaceutical sector.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Able to work with minimal direction or supervision and across management and organization levels.
- A demonstrated ability to develop productive relationships with industry colleagues and key opinion leaders.
- Experienced communication at senior levels of management, both domestic and internationally.
- Ability to manage through teamwork, trust, and shared expectations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to interact and communicate in written and oral forms with a diverse group of individuals on both technical and business topics.
- Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally. Travel may be required frequently, for extended periods of time and on short notice. Estimated annual travel demands of 20%-30%.
- Normal physical demands associated with an office based position.
- Willing to commit to significant overtime when required.
