Position Summary
This position requires an experienced mechanical engineer ready to lead (and support) Thoratec projects from initial concept, through development and verification/validation testing, and into Manufacturing. This experienced engineer will utilize a wide variety of technical skills and reasoning in analyzing mechanical systems, overseeing the designing and running of tests, improving or fixing product features, and documenting findings. Excellent team-leading abilities and interpersonal skills are required for satisfying internal and external customers. Leadership qualities must include the ability to make critical judgments and decisions.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Analysis of physical systems, e.g. in terms of stress and strain, heat transfer, kinematics, etc., Design of physical systems, including product, fabrication tooling, and test fixtures, Verification and validation testing, Understanding of new technologies, commercial fabrication techniques, etc., Appropriate application of theory and commercial or custom software tools, Understanding the root cause of technical problems encountered, e.g. by observation, manipulation, and testing of failed components, and proposing solutions Thorough completion of documentation associated with work product, Iintegration of academic and experiential knowledge and application to new solutions, Effective, persuasive communication of work product to the entire organization, and General support of Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Sales, and Marketing.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus five to ten years of engineering experience (or a Masterrsquo;s Degree plus five years of related experience) in the Research and Development of a technological product is required.
Additional Qualifications
Experience in a regulated industry (and especially knowledge of the FDA Quality System Regulation) is preferred. Familiarity with issues surrounding the design and production of medical electronics, as well as cardiovascular physiology, pathophysiology, and the biologic interface of a mechanical device is advantageous.
