- Drive product line performance to achieve projected revenue and margin contribution for an assigned portfolio of Bioscience products - Working closely with R&D, Sales, Business Development, Strategic Marketing and Operations to monitor marketplace trends to develop and implement the appropriate portfolio strategies and marketing tactics to strengthen EMD Chemical's competitive position globally. - Working closely with the R&D, Technology & Licensing, Business Development, Strategic Marketing and the Operational Marketing teams to build and maintain the product portfolio through new product introduction as well as consolidation and rationalization. - Developing cohesive marketing programs that utilize print, electronic and other forms of media to communicate EMD Chemical's value proposition to the customer. This position is also responsible for working with the top international CMGs (Company of the Merck Group) to develop promotional marketing programs appropriate for the international markets. - Developing monthly and annual sales forecasts for the assigned portfolio of Bioscience products to support the Corporate S&OP process and Demand Planning
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: - Develop and implement marketing plans with all corresponding tactics to support the global marketing strategies and sales efforts for the assigned area. - Develop and implement tactical marketing programs to help achieve division and portfolio revenue goals. - Develop tactical marketing programs that are consistent with the Corporate goals for utilizing Direct, Distribution and other Sales channels with a strong focus on use of the web for marketing, e- procurement and e-commerce approaches and requirements - Monitor and create reports on competitive activities. - Develop competitive matrices and provide support materials to sales force and CMGs. - Work with Business Development, Strategic Marketing, R&D, Operations, Sales, CMGs and other Marketing members to learn about current market dynamics and to identify new market opportunities. - Visit key customers to evaluate and maintain good customer relations and understand customer needs and market trends. - Establish new product performance requirements based upon concrete market input, and drive new products, product modifications and product line extensions. - Manage existing product portfolios through their life cycle, make decisions around pricing, product and distribution changes, and manage the communication of changes to appropriate internal and external parties. - Implement pricing strategies consistent with EMD Chemical's financial goals and position assigned products against competition. - Develop new product launch plans and strategies to achieve new product revenue goals. - Represent EMD Chemicals at trade shows and other customer events. - Support Technical Service, CMGs and sales team. - Business travel to attend tradeshows, work with sales organizations, and meet with customers and develop/manage relationships with marketing partners. Approximately 20% travel required. - Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: - Bachelors Degree in a scientific field (Biology or Chemistry). - Advanced Degree desirable; MBA preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Sales, Marketing & Product Management of cell biology, molecular biology or proteomics reagents and/or kits, or a related area in the life science industry. Previous lab experience required.
Skills: - Must be knowledgeable about life science reagent market, customers, competitors and their product lines. - Must understand and be able to discuss biochemistry, protein analysis, protein purification, protein expression, antibody and detection assays, and protein-protein interaction assays with scientific credibility. - Must possess excellent analytical skills and multi-tasking capabilities. - Must be highly customer-focused; self-starter with passion to seek out new applications and areas for EMD Chemicals product expansion. - Must be highly results-oriented to deliver quality work under time pressure/multiple priorities. - Must possess team leadership and management skills to develop strong relationships within a cross functional team environment (the position often requires the ability to influence others without direct control). - Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. - Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Prior knowledge of SAP and BW a strong plus.
