The purpose of this position is to organize, perform and evaluate projects aimed at testing the use and action of new dyes, new antibodies, antibody conjugates and other products using flow and acoustic cytometry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Independently conducts scientific experiments; assists in the planning and design of experiments develop test protocols to delineate the use and characterize the behavior of the dyes in cellular systems using flow and acoustic cytometry. Perform flow cytometry testing: instrument quality control and maintenance, acquisition and interpretation of data Help the team to maintain the daily operation of the Flow facilities; perform group tasks as assigned Completely and precisely record experimental results. Advises supervisor of factors that may affect experiment; Independently analyzes data; suggests next steps in testing process Compile, interpret and report test results regularly; communicate with team about testing. Practice good laboratory housekeeping, both of own areas and common areas Other tasks as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

Keep up to date with developments in general cell biology, immunology and instrumentation for cytometry Write scientific reports, production and QC protocols, draft product information sheets, scientific posters, and draft marketing information or patents and grants proposals as required (with supervisory assistance and guidance) and to support products as needed Represent the company at trade shows or scientific conferences as deemed necessary; present scientific results and/or work in booths at such events.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the theories, practices and procedures of flow cytometry Experience with daily operation of a laser based flow cytometer preferred; demonstrated skill using a variety of fluorescent probes in flow cytometric assays. Expertise in general immunological approaches is desirable. Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple and changing priorities and projects. Requires the ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines.

Ability to quickly master new skills, methods and tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to express scientific results in a clear, concise manner.
Skill in the use of computers in a laboratory setting; word processing software experience is preferred.
Excellent skill as a team player, and an excellent ability to accept supervisory direction in a commercial establishment where the major goal is product development; ability to work fairly independently once experimental designs have been defined.
